Christian County Judge/Executive Steve Tribble and Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks joined the Hopkinsville League of Women Voters to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Kentucky ratifying the 19th amendment.

During a proclamation reading Monday afternoon, Hendricks says after the state ratified the amendment for the Constitution of the United States of America, others soon followed suit.

Hendricks and Tribble declared January 6 through August 18, 2020, as Kentucky Women’s Suffrage Centennial and encouraged all citizens to join in a celebration of the worthy observance.

League member Carolyn Self notes that even after the 19th amendment was ratified, ALL African-American men and women did not get to vote until the signing of the Voting Rights Act by President Lyndon Johnson on August 6, 1965.
