Christian County Fiscal Court magistrates approved the purchase of two lots in downtown Hopkinsville at a special called meeting Tuesday morning.

Prior to the vote, magistrates went into closed session for about 15 minutes to discuss the acquisition. When the meeting was called back into order, Magistrate Darrell Gustafson made a motion to purchase two lots along West 5th Street for a cost of $40,000. He added that the lots are near the old Sheriff’s office and could provide additional parking for the Alhambra Theatre, other businesses in downtown and events.

The motion passed by a 7-1 vote with Magistrate Phillip Peterson casting the lone nay vote. He tells the News Edge he voted against the acquisition because he feels the lots will not resolve the county’s issue of parking in downtown.

In other action, magistrates unanimously approved the annual $200,000 Trilogy Center contract, and they approved an agreement with the Christian County Rescue Team for Fiscal Year 2020, along with the emergency, and search and rescue plans.

Magistrates also approved the reappointments of Barbara Morris and David Johnson to the Christian County Water District Board for a 4-year term.

The next regular Fiscal Court meeting will be Tuesday morning, January 14, 2020, at 8:30.
