City Pledges Support For Ebonite Employees

City officials are pledging their support for the 171 employees who lost their jobs when Ebonite suddenly closed Friday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks says the city learned Friday via a letter that Ebonite International, Inc. would be closing its doors. He says the abrupt closure, without prior notice to employees, was announced Friday afternoon.

Hendricks says they were surprised to hear Ebonite was closing and terminating operations in Hopkinsville. He adds the city has been proud to be the home of Ebonite and its outstanding workforce. He notes Ebonite will forever be a part of Hopkinsville’s rich history.

According to Hendricks, city and county officials are working closely with the West Kentucky Workforce Board to provide help and assistance to affected workers. The mayor also stresses that Ebonite employees are not alone and pledged the community will continue to work together.

The mayor went on to say they are praying for the employees and families affected by this decision. He says several agencies have already initiated action to assist the Ebonite employees affected by this sudden announcement, and more information will be shared when it becomes available.
