A man was taken to the hospital by a helicopter after hitting a church building with his vehicle on East 9th Street Wednesday night.
Hopkinsville Police Sgt. Edward Eastman said 28-year-old Pascual Martin of Hopkinsville was westbound at speeds of 50mph when he ran off the road and hit the side of a church building owned by Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Martin was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center where he was transferred to a helicopter and flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville with head and arm injuries.
Multiple empty beer containers were reportedly found in Martin’s SUV and when police asked for his driver’s license he gave them a passport.
Police say they are still investigating the crash but believe alcohol may have contributed to the wreck.
