Kirby Wallace Appears For Arraignment In Stewart County

A Tennessee man that prompted a massive manhunt in Montgomery and Stewart counties last year after he allegedly killed a woman and attacked her husband entered a not guilty plea during his arraignment Monday.

News outlets report 53-year old Kirby Wallace appeared in a Stewart County courtroom Monday morning after he was indicted last week on nine counts including murder, attempted murder, arson, robbery, and kidnapping. As the News Edge previously reported, the charges stem from September 2018 when he allegedly attacked the Stewart County couple, set their house on fire and killed 63-year old Brenda Smith and seriously injured her husband, Teddy Smith. Wallace is also a suspect in another death in Montgomery County.

Wallace was added to the TBI’s Ten Most Wanted List in September of last year. Multiple law enforcement agencies launched a massive search for 13 days until Wallace was taken into custody on October 5 in a wooded area near the Montgomery-Stewart County line by Henry County Sheriff Monte Bellew and Corporal Stacy Bostick.
