A home near the intersection with Cox Mill Road and KY 117, the Gracey-Herndon Road, was destroyed by fire early Sunday morning.
Square Deal Volunteer Fire Department Chief Keith Sholar says firefighters were called to the home of Neil and Kathy Holland Campbell at 9801 Coxmill Road at 2:49 am. Sholar says the home was fully engulfed in flames, with one section of the structure partially collapsed when they arrived on the scene. He deemed the house a total loss and said the cause of the blaze could not be determined due to the amount of damage.
Sholar says the Campbell’s were not home when the fire started. The fire was reported by a neighbor when they heard an explosion that Sholar said was likely a 1100-poundpropane tank.
Sholar says Square Deal was assisted by volunteers from the Herndon Fire Department. He says they remained on the scene until shortly after 6:00 Sunday morning.
The family is in need of anything that people would like to donate. Neil wears a size 36/30 pants and XL shirt. Kathy wears a size 2x or 3x shirt and size 20 pants. They are currently staying with Kathy’s mother and father, Georgia and Opal Holland at 3390 Memory Lane.
Kathy says the outpouring of love and support from the community has been overwhelming.
