A Hopkinsville man was flown to a hospital and another man was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after a wreck on the Pennyrile Parkway Friday afternoon.

According to the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, the wreck involved a dump truck driven by 36-year old Justin Hartness of Nashville, Arkansas and a pickup truck driven by 24-year old Ryan Jaynes of Hopkinsville. Deputies say Hartness was traveling northbound on the parkway when he went to pass Jaynes and his truck, for an unknown reason, began spinning around and then flipped over, coming to rest on the driver’s side in a rock ditch. Deputies say Jaynes appeared to have been ejected from the side window of the vehicle and was found lying in the ditch, alert and conscious.

Deputies found Hartness at the off-ramp onto Fort Campbell Boulevard and he was arrested and booked into the Christian County Jail for leaving the scene of an accident, operating on an expired driver’s license, first degree wanton endangerment and other offenses. Two large knives were reported found concealed in the dump truck, along with rolling papers in the driver’s side floorboard and a homemade pipe in Hartness’ front pocket that deputies say they believe was used with marijuana.

The report says Hartness told deputies he did not make contact with the pickup truck, and Jaynes stated he was unsure if the truck actually hit his vehicle.
