As the Hopkinsville-Christian County Community, and those surrounding it, continue to mourn the loss of Hopkinsville Police Officer Phillip Meacham, there will be several chances to gather together to remember him.
The community is invited to a Saturday night candlelight prayer vigil for Officer Meacham. At 7:30pm, everyone will gather at the Police Memorial Park beside Hopkinsville Police Department, 101 North Main Street. Residents are asked to bring candles. If it rains, the candlelight vigil will be at First Baptist Church, on South Main Street. That decision will be made by 6:00pm.
A public visitation for Officer Meacham will be held Tuesday afternoon from 3:00 until 8:00 at the Christian County High School gym. A public memorial service will begin Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the CCHS gym.
Mayor Carter Hendricks, Police Chief Clayton Sumner, Hopkinsville City Council, and city employees express their profound sympathy for the family of Officer Phillip Meacham, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty Thursday afternoon when he was shot and killed on Paulette Court.
In a release, Mayor Hendricks says their deepest sympathy and condolences go out to the family and friends of Officer Meacham as well as his brothers and sisters at the Hopkinsville Police Department. He is encouraging all residents to continue to pray for the family and the entire city as we mourn the loss of one of our finest. He went on to say “we will get through this challenging time because of our strength, compassion, and love.”
All flags on city property were lowered to half-staff Thursday night and will remain at half-staff until the memorial service, according to city officials.
