Three people were transported to hospitals after a mattress caught fire inside a home on Lafayette Road Saturday afternoon. Hopkinsville Fire Department Public Information Officer, Captain Michael Pendleton tells the News Edge five units were dispatched to 3308 Lafayette Road at 2:34pm where the residents had already evacuated the home.

He says one person with burns was treated and flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, two others were transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for smoke inhalation, and two cats were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
According to Captain Pendleton, the fire was determined to have started from an ear wax candle.
