A Trigg County School student is in custody after allegedly making a threat Friday. According to Trigg County Sheriff Ray Burnam, he received a call Saturday night from School Superintendent Travis Hamby about a threat that Hamby said he had just learned about.
According to information from the Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Burnam spoke with the Trigg County student who reported the threat to his mother earlier in the day on Saturday. The student stated that another student made a threat about bringing a gun to school and shooting the Principal and Assistant Principal.
After talking to the student who reported the threat, Sheriff Burnam spoke with the Trigg Teen and his guardian. The teen admitted to saying the threat, but told the sheriff he was joking. Burnam took the teen into custody at 7:52 Saturday night and charged the teen with Terroristic Threatening. The teen was transported to the Paducah Juvenile Detention Center Saturday night after after Sheriff Burnam notified the Court Designated Worker.
Burnam says joke or no joke, you will go to jail if you make these type threats in school. He adds they take this very serious and will do everything legally possible to hold those making threats accountable.
Burnam also thanked the student who reported the threat.
