Trigg High School Arrowcats Win NASP State

The Trigg County High School Arrowcats are again the state champs after the National Archery in the Schools Program State Tournament finals on Tuesday. The Trigg County Middle School team placed third in their division. For the high school team, it's the second state title in as many days. They took the KHSAA state title Monday.

Each team only shoots once during the combined tournament, but scores posted on the first day are often topped on day two. But the Arrowcats' score of 3,457 was enough to clench both titles. Shaye Patterson was runner-up in the high school girls' division on both days, with Kayla Bingham coming in a close fourth. Evan Smith placed fourth in the boys' high school division. Marshall Evans took top honors among middle school boys. Kaylen Smith placed second in the middle school girls' division.

The Trigg County Elementary Arrowcats placed sixth, but the youngest Arrowcats faced their toughest competition yet as the sport continues to grow in popularity across the state. This was the largest state tournament to date, with 4,173 archers competing for state honors.

Nationals will be held in Louisville on May 9 and 10.
