A reception and pinning ceremony was held Tuesday night as Hopkinsville’s newest fire chief, Steve Futrell, was officially sworn-in.
Retired fire chief, Clarksville Fire Chief Freddie Montgomery was on hand at the event and said Futrell’s last two years as deputy chief allowed him, as chief, to focus on moving the Hopkinsville Fire Department forward as a premier fire department. He added the new chief is dedicated, knowledgeable and a true leader. He then addressed firefighters and Futrell’s family.
Mayor Carter Hendricks said Futrell has earned the responsibility to serve as chief.
He then administered the oath and pinning.
Chief Futrell said he was humbled by those that attended the ceremony and thanked everyone for their support.
He said one of the most important things Chief Montgomery taught him was the significance of teaching young officers how to become leaders.
He also expressed to firefighters how proud he is to stand beside them and represent them.
The ceremony for Hopkinsville’s 17th fire chief was held at the James E. Bruce Convention Center.
