Police have released more information about a man who was hit while attempting to walk across Main Street in Cadiz Tuesday night. Cadiz Police Sgt. Tyler Thomas identified the man who was flown to a Nashville hospital as 26-year old Deonte Byers of Hopkinsville.
Sgt. Thomas tells the News Edge they received a call around 7:00 that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle between the Minit mart and Main Street Villas. When Sgt. Thomas and Trigg County EMS arrived on the scene, he says they found Byers lying unconscious on the ground with an apparent head wound, a broken arm, and possible internal injuries. Byers was treated at the scene by EMS and transported to Trigg County Hospital. He was later flown to Skyline Medical Center for treatment.
Sgt. Thomas says Main Street was closed for about an hour while they worked the scene and conducted interviews with witnesses. Trigg County Sheriff’s deputies also provided assistance at the scene.
Sgt. Thomas reports the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Main Street when the accident occurred and witnesses stated the driver was not speeding or driving erratically. He says the driver of the vehicle was a juvenile, whose name will not be released. He adds it was also determined the juvenile was not under the influence of any intoxicants or alcohol.
Although pedestrians frequently cross the street in the area, there is no legal crosswalk.
