Twenty-three law enforcement dispatchers, including a Christian County resident, graduated from the Public Safety Dispatch Academy Friday.
According to the Department of Criminal Justice Training and Public Safety Cabinet, Montana Vanderkolk from the Hopkinsville Police Department was among the 123rd telecommunications academy class. Vanderkolk took part in a mandatory five-week training which consisted of 205 hours of academy instruction to satisfy mandated training requirements. Some of the training included identifying the role and responsibilities of a dispatcher, correct phone and radio procedures, handling emergency and non-emergency calls for service, emergency medical dispatch protocols, and use of the state and national criminal databases.
The training is required for any sworn or civilian employee who will dispatch law enforcement officials by radio at a Criminal Justice Information Systems agency.
