More Money For L&N Depot Repairs Approved

Hopkinsville City Council approved additional funding needed to make repairs at the L&N Depot during Tuesday night’s meeting.

Instead of amending the operational budget for 2018-2019, City Financial Officer Robert Martin explained the City will use $32,680 from the Interfund Transfer account which is needed in addition to $100,000 that council amended and approved in June for the repairs.

In addition, Martin explained the operational budget did not need to be amended for any additional funding to make the part-time Beautification Coordinator position full-time.

In other business, council members unanimously approved closing the East 6th Street alley by Young Hardware as part of the ongoing redevelopment.

Council also approved renaming Fort Campbell Memorial Park on Fort Campbell Boulevard at Pennyrile Parkway as Gander Memorial Park, which will be getting new signage according to Mayor Carter Hendricks.

And the council approved the appointment of seven individuals to serve on an ad hoc committee tasked with making a recommendation to the Committee of the Whole no later than November 30 regarding the Confederate Soldiers Burial Site at Riverside Cemetery. The special committee includes councilmembers Paul Henson, Tom Johnson, and Terry Parker, along with Public Works Director Mike Perry or designee, City Administrator Officer Troy Body, Historian William Turner, and VFW Post #13 Commander John Brame.
