A teenage girl was injured in a single vehicle wreck in Hopkinsville late Friday afternoon.
Police say the accident occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. when 17-year old Takayla Watkins of Hopkinsville was traveling south on North Elm Street between Maplelawn Street and Talbert Drive when she told officers she swerved to miss a squirrel that ran across the road. Watkins’ vehicle exited the road, traveled a distance in a ditch and then struck a culvert. Officers report there were no skid marks on the road to indicate Watkins had slowed or stopped the vehicle. Police say the vehicle sustained significant damage to the front and left side, the right front wheel was broken off, and the windshield was damaged when the airbag deployed.
Watkins was transported by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for complaints of neck, head and leg pain.
