A Hopkinsville man was charged with torture of a dog or cat after killing a dog on Springmont Drive in Hopkinsville Saturday night.
Hopkinsville Police say 47-year-old Martin Hartwig brutally slammed a dog onto the ground, killing the dog after it urinated on his $1,300 couch.
He reportedly fled the area on his motorcycle before law enforcement arrived, but was stopped after returning to the home. Police say he showed signs of being intoxicated.
Hartwig was arrested and charged with torture of a dog or cat, cruelty to animals, DUI third offense, and no insurance.
