Cadiz-Trigg County Tourism Finalizing ARPA Plans

With a December deadline quickly approaching, the Cadiz-Trigg County Tourist Commission now has best-laid plans for its specific spending of America Rescue Plan Act funds.

That’s according to Executive Director Beth Sumner, who during Monday’s board meeting noted the allotted $69,000-plus in federal cash can legally only go toward three tourism actions: wayfinding, video production and the creation of new billboards.

As such, Sumner said the goal for Cadiz and Trigg County by the end of 2024 will be to procure wayfinding kiosks and a new billboard at least 21 miles south of Cadiz.

These kiosks, she said, will be mobile and suitable for indoor and outdoor locations, and one of them will join a similar apparatus that’s almost up and running at Lake Barkley State Resort Park.

Another positive for the kiosks, Sumner said, is that it would allow for general tracking of visitor demographics and analytics — something she and the board are hoping to get more access to in 2025 and beyond, in order to improve target audiences for things like website development, commercials and advertisements.

As for the new billboard, Sumner passed around first draft imaging of what some new signage might look like — in a high-profile location somewhere between Exits 81 and 86 coming from Clarksville.

In other tourism news:

— Sumner confirmed that she will chair the Trigg County Country Ham Festival Committee for a second straight year, with the next meeting planned for early December. The creation of sub-committees, she added, akin to the Cadiz Rotary Club will help alleviate the full gamut of tasks required each year.

— Sumner also confirmed that by the start of 2025, the Cadiz-Trigg County Tourist Commission will be formalizing its process for sponsorship requests.

— Jamie Lewis, director of guest services, will be visiting the Trigg County Senior Citizens Center Friday, in order to work with visitors on Christmas ornaments. Then, on Saturday, November 23, a fine arts and crafts show is scheduled, and will be juried, out at the Lexie Bush Convention Center. The Cadiz Christmas Parade is scheduled for the first weekend of December.
