Smith Settling Into First Term as Christian County Jailer

Christian County Jailer Adam Smith has settled into his new position, one he calls ‘being the mayor of a small city.’

Smith was elected last year after interim jailer Brad Hewell declined to run for a full term. Smith said Hewell was extremely cooperative during the transition.

click to download audioSmith said between 40 and 50 supervised inmates are in the community each weekday to help with different organizations and programs.

click to download audioSmith said the daily census of the jail runs at around 650 inmates, which includes some state inmates and federal inmates who use the jail as a stopover for their trip to federal facilities in the region.

The Christian County Jail has a staff of 65 employees.
