A Murray man was arrested in Eddyville after an investigation into reported threats against Lyon County Middle School.

Sheriff Brent White said in a news release that 30-year old Steven Jester was charged with two counts of second-degree terroristic threatening. The charges are from an investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies that Jester allegedly made statements that he would “get a gun and go to the Lyon County Middle School to shoot a student and then shoot up the school.” In addition, Sheriff White said Jester also “reportedly stated he was going to blow up the school.”

According to Sheriff White, the investigation began Thursday after state police received a third-party complaint alleging Jester had made multiple threatening statements about the safety of the middle school while he was at work in Murray.

Deputies from the Calloway County Sheriff‘s Office, along with state police troopers and ATF personnel interviewed witnesses and coworkers of Jester. As law enforcement gathered evidence in Calloway County, Jester was reportedly located at a residence in Eddyville, a few blocks away from Lyon County Middle School.

Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies and Eddyville Police officers went to the home in Eddyville where they made contact with Jester and found him in possession of several firearms, firearms components, and various types of ammunition.

Following an interview, Jester was reportedly taken to an area hospital where he was cleared and released back into the community in the early hours of Friday.

After the two sheriff’s offices petitioned Calloway County District Court for an arrest warrant, Jester was taken into custody on Magnolia Street in Eddyville around 5:15 Friday evening. He was lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.
