Makenna Potts Wins Kentucky Voice of Democracy Essay Contest

Trigg County High School’s Makenna Potts has won the Kentucky Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy essay competition, becoming the first student from Trigg to win at the state level. She represented District 3 and VFW Post 7890.

Potts wrote a winning essay on “Why is the Veteran Important?”

Since 1947, the Voice of Democracy has been the VFW’s premier scholarship program. Prizes and scholarships can be awarded at the post, district, state, and national levels.

Potts will receive at least a $1,000 scholarship for being the state winner and receive an all-expense-paid trip to Washington DC, to tour the city, be honored by the VFW and its Auxiliary, and receive their portion of $171,000 in national awards, with the top scholarship being $35,000.
