Outgoing Hopkinsville City Council Members Recognized

As some new faces will be seated on Hopkinsville City Council at the beginning of the year, Mayor Wendell Lynch presented outgoing council members with certificates of appreciation for their service on the city council.

During the last city council meeting of the year Tuesday night, Alethea West thanked the citizens of Hopkinsville for allowing her to serve on the city council and she wished the incoming council members and mayor all the best.

Councilman Phillip Brooks also had some parting words for incoming council members.

Patricia Waddell-Bell said she has “thoroughly enjoyed serving on the council” and shared some advice for remaining and incoming council members.

Other council members who will not be returning for another term are Kimberly McCarley, Terry Parker, and Tom Johnson. Parker and Johnson were absent from the meeting and Mayor Lynch said he would present their certificates to them in the future.

In new business, the city council approved the citizen participation ordinance on the first reading that will allow members of the public to only address the council one time per meeting with comments limited to no more than 3 minutes.

 

The council unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance to rezone approximately 612 acres of newly annexed property on John Rivers Road to an I-2 — Heavy Industrial District.

The council also unanimously approved U.S. 68 easements for a widening project as explained by Mayor Lynch.

click to download audioA resolution for the Boys and Girls Club’s addition of a Teen Center was also approved. A new Teen Center will be built on the eastern side of the property after the local Boys and Girls Club received a $1 million dollar grant from the Kentucky Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs.
