Fort Campbell Soldier Dies After Being Found Unresponsive in Home

Fort Campbell officials have identified the soldier found unresponsive in a Clarksville home earlier this week.

Fort Campbell Public Affairs says Sergeant First Class Cory Burelle was a Soldier in the 3rd Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

Officials say they are working with Clarksville Police in the ongoing investigation. The media release said Burelle died of natural causes.

3rd Brigade commander Colonel Mark Federovich says “The Rakkasan family is saddened by the news of Sgt. 1st Class Burelle’s sudden and untimely death.” and that leadership extends its deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Burelle was born in Massachusetts and enlisted in the Army from Wilton, New Hampshire, in July of 2009. He did three tours in Afghanistan in 2010, Kuwait in 2013, and Afghanistan again in 2016.

His awards and decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, six Army Achievement Medals, two Meritorious Unit Commendations, four Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, two Afghanistan Campaign Medals with a Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, two Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbons, Army Service Ribbon, two Overseas Service Ribbons, two NATO medals, Combat Action Badge, Marksmanship Qualification Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.
