Council Moves To Amend Zoning Code To Include Solar Energy Systems

Hopkinsville City Council is moving forward with an ordinance being prepared to amend the zoning code to include Solar Energy Systems (SES) after hearing comments from the public about solar panels and the possibility of solar farms in Christian County.

At Tuesday night’s meeting, Attorney Peter Schlicker, who represents BrightNight Power in Louisville, started off the discussion and said the proposed amendment before the city council provides setbacks ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 for larger solar facilities along with a process to get a variance. However, he feels the applicable standard is too restrictive and would prohibit large-scale solar farms and economic benefits.
