Beshear Brings Christian County Water District & Witty Lane Checks

Governor Andy Beshear wasn’t in Hopkinsville Monday afternoon just to announce the large investment coming from Ascend Elements and into Commerce Park II.

Following an early-morning toy-drive stop by his wife and First Lady, Britainy, at Princeton Country Club and a lunch layover at the Mayfield Rotary Club, Beshear also brought confirming news already reported by his office — toting checks of $2.03 million for the Christian County Water District and its Water System Extension Project, and of $107,000 for the rubber-modified repaving of Witty Lane.

Christian County Water District Chair Ashbel Brunson noted the $2-plus-million will help extend projects as small as 150 feet, and as large as 18,000 feet — in what he called the “octopus tentacles” of the service net. And in terms of the money, Beshear had already approved more than $1 million for Christian County’s rural water, and the extra $2 million will allow 75 unserved and under-served homes to receive service, as well as develop a new pump station will also be built to fill a Crofton water tank.

This will benefit not just Christian County, but also Hopkins, Todd and Trigg counties.

Brunson also emotionally handed over a $3,000 check of personal funds collected by the Water District, set to be delivered to those in need following the floods of eastern Kentucky.

Earlier in his Hopkinsville visit, Beshear said the death toll in EKY is up to 35, and that he’s still expecting more — as rains continue in that region, and excessive heat is expected later this week.

Witty Lane, meanwhile, will be reconstructed soon with this new surface, as a test model for the potential product.

Beshear also highlighted the arrival of more than $13.8 million still bound to west Kentucky for Pennyrile Rural Electric Cooperative and its associates, which will be matched by Christian County. This will expand high-speed internet to more than 5,500 unserved households and businesses located in Caldwell, Christian, Lyon, Todd and Trigg counties.
