Election Issue Reported In Republican Hopkinsville City Council Race

The Christian County Republican Party is waiting for guidance from the Kentucky Board of Elections and the Attorney General’s Office after learning of a problem in the Hopkinsville Council Ward 7 Republican Primary between Doug Wilcox and Mark Graham.

County Republican Election Judge Phillip Eastman tells the News Edge a voter reported that she and a number of other voters were given the wrong ballot by poll workers. Eastman reports several people were allowed to vote in the primary race that should not have been allowed to vote.

Eastman says he reported the problem to the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office and the Kentucky Board of Elections Wednesday morning. He said they are awaiting guidance from state officials to see what needs to be done to correct the issue. Eastman says he was told that County Clerk Mike Kem and the Democrat Election Judge were aware of the problem on Tuesday, but did not notify him of the issue. The issue reportedly occurred at the voting center at the Bruce Convention Center and involved the G-104 precinct.

Doug Wilcox narrowly defeated Mark Graham by a one-vote margin in the Republican primary in Ward 7.

County Clerk Mike Kem was not in the office when contacted by the News Edge Wednesday morning.
