Biden Arrives In Fort Campbell For Storm Tour Of Mayfield, Princeton, And Dawson Springs (w/PHOTOS)

If the President of the United States makes port in Fort Campbell Air Base, it’s typically for one of two reasons: great celebration, or terrible despair.

Commander-In-Chief Joe Biden landed for the latter Wednesday morning around 9:45 a.m., before briskly joining Gov. Andy Beshear and his family in a caravan of five helicopters bound for tornado-torn Mayfield and Dawson Springs.

Among Biden’s caravan — which included 50 or so national press and White House dignitaries — was U.S. Representative James Comer, who deboarded the plane with Biden and addressed the Beshear family.

Alongside two of the President’s helicopters were three Osprey, which quickly filled with civilians and other officials before barreling behind as part of the survey team.

Biden and his entourage spent less than 10 minutes on the tarmac in Fort Campbell before rolling along, no doubt surveying some of the damage also suffered in south Christian County — as Interstate 24 up to the exit for Fort Campbell’s Gate 7 looks a bit like a wasteland.

The President first went to Mayfield, county seat of Graves County, and he is expected in Dawson Springs around 3 p.m. before returning to Air Force One close to sundown.
