As the Dawson Springs community continues to mourn the death of 18-year old Logan McKnight, two other teens in the vehicle are continuing to recover from their injuries as school officials announced details for the funeral service on Wednesday in the high school’s gym.

Superintendent Leonard Whalen says 18-year old Landon Pace, who graduated from Dawson Springs High School in May, has been released from the hospital while high school junior, 16-year old Tyler Hale, was injured more severely and is still in the hospital continuing to improve. He says Hale had major surgery to repair both legs along with other injuries that will take time to heal.

Whalen also says McKnight, who didn’t survive the accident, graduated in May from Dawson Springs High School. He adds not only was McKnight active in their school community and athletics, but he was also very active around the community as he cut grass to earn extra money and he often worked doing different things with his family.

McKnight’s funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 in the Dawson Springs High school gymnasium. Whalen says as a result of the service, they will release all students and run buses at 1:00 Wednesday. He adds that due to the anticipated crowd for the service and for safety measures,  masks will be required for those attending.

As previously reported by the News Edge, state police said the two-vehicle crash occurred Tuesday night at the intersection of Kentucky Highways 91 and 672, about 9 miles southeast of Princeton. Reports said the teens were en route to watch a boys basketball scrimmage in Cadiz.

The driver of the second vehicle, 31-year old Michael Lipson of Princeton, was also injured in the crash and taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville for treatment.

Multiple clergy and counselors were at the school last Wednesday with prayer vigils held for the teens and their families.

When school resumes Monday Whalen says multiple credentialed counselors and local clergy will be back at the school to continue to help students and staff.
