Guthrie Man Sentenced In Valero Murder Case

A Guthrie man was officially sentenced in Christian County Circuit Court Wednesday for his role in a fatal shooting at the Valero gas station in Hopkinsville earlier this year.

26-year old David King was initially charged with complicity of murder, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, tampering with physical evidence and first-degree hindering prosecution or apprehension.

King appeared for sentencing via Zoom from the Christian County Jail Wednesday morning while his defense attorney Stewart Wheeler of Russellville and Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling appeared in the courtroom before Circuit Judge John Atkins. The sentencing comes after King took a plea deal in October in which he entered a guilty plea after some of the charges he was facing were dismissed in exchange for his testimony against the co-defendant in this case, 21-year old Dalton Hall of Springfield, Tennessee.

Judge Atkins denied probation and sentenced King on the charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun and hindering prosecution and apprehension.

King and Hall were arrested and charged in connection to the April 10th shooting death of 31-year old Delmour Moncrief at the Valero gas station on East 9th Street in Hopkinsville. Police reported Hall and King fled the gas station after the shooting and Moncrief was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center where he later died from his injuries. According to police, Hall was arrested a few days later in Alabama and King was taken into custody in Todd County on July 16th.
