Christian County No Longer In Running For Beef Processor

The South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council says they were notified Monday that Christian County is no longer in consideration from Project Groot, the American Food Group Beef Processing Facility.

EDC Director Carter Hendricks says as the result of the company’s ongoing analysis American Food Group has decided to pursue other options due to logistical considerations and the availability of commodity as compared to the competitive site. American Food Groups was considering a location off John Rives Road near Pembroke to building a 500,000 square foot beef cattle harvest facility. The company was expected to employ up to 1,300 people.

Hendricks said he did not know if recent concerns about the processor played into the decision. He was only told what was included in the statement from the EDC. In the future Hendricks says they will work harder to include the public in the consideration of a major manufacturer. He adds this consideration opens the door for other larger companies to consider Christian, Trigg, and Todd Counties for future expansion.
