Cadiz City Council Waives Utility, Building Permit Fees For PJ Lumber Company

In another important step of the arrival of the P.J. Lumber Company LLC to Trigg County, the Cadiz City Council voted unanimously this past Tuesday to waive utility connection and building permit fees for its upstart — as part of a full initiative to incentivize local business.

The news came less than 24 hours after the Trigg County Fiscal Court had unanimously opted to an 90 percent tax rebate over 10 years, pending qualified investment.

Cadiz Mayor Todd King and his constituents entered into executive session to hear comments and clarification from South Western Kentucky EDC Executive Director Carter Hendricks and PJ Lumber CEO and Cadiz native Jacob Wadlington, before taking public action.

The council opted to table discussion surrounding the 90 percent tax rebate, until Wadlington and his business associates can legally center in on the full property and tax value after improvements, as well as the payroll taxes due on employees.

Hendricks broke this down to both Wadlington and the council.

Set to create 35 full-time jobs by 2023 at a $5 million investment, PJ Lumber Company will begin operation in fall 2021 with 13 employees during the first season — paying a near-average of $23/hour including benefits.
