A Hopkinsville EMS worker was recently honored for saving a mother and child.

According to Hopkinsville Fire/EMS officials, Critical Care Paramedic Parker Cibene and partner EMT Caitlin Huddleston responded to an OB emergency involving a patient with ruptured membranes and prolapsed cord.

They add Cibene recognized that the situation was extremely urgent and elevated the baby off the chord to remove the pressure. He also called the receiving facility from the scene to notify personnel of the patient’s condition. Due to his early recognition and notification, the receiving facility said the transition of care went smoothly, and the care provided gave the best possible outcome.

Following an emergency C-section, both mother and baby are doing well.

Last week, Deputy Chief of EMS Phillip Ferguson presented Cibene with a Challenge Coin of Excellence.
