Christian County Schools Taking Applications For Supplemental School Year

Christian County Schools Superintendent Chris Bentzel said the district is working to register students who may want a “do-over year.”

House Bill 128, which passed during the recent legislative session in Frankfort, would allow students from Kindergarten to 12th grade a chance to take a supplemental year because of COVID-19.

Bentzel said he thinks the bill is good for children who fell behind.

He added the district has been conducting in-person learning longer than other school districts over the past year.

The application for the supplemental year is live on the district’s website and due by May 1.

Bentzel said the course load for each student would depend on how many sign up and their grade level.

School districts have until June 1 to decide whether to participate in the supplemental year.

Meanwhile, Bentzel said it appeared the district was on a plateau concerning active COVID-19 cases.

As of Tuesday afternoon, there were three staff cases and 15 student cases.
