Kentucky Again Reports Highest Single Day Death Total

Kentucky reported the highest single-day death count Thursday afternoon.

During Governor Andy Beshear’s COVID-19 news conference, 58 new deaths were confirmed, including two from Trigg County and one in Caldwell County. The deaths reported Thursday could date back to the beginning of January and are not a total of how many people passed away from COVID-19 on January 21.

Beshear stated the state’s mortality rate was less than half of the world’s, but it’s still too high.

Beshear said the lower rate means Kentuckians are taking COVID-19 guidelines more seriously.

The state reported 3,728 new cases Thursday and a lower positivity rate than Wednesday’s by .24-percent.

There are 1,604 residents hospitalized, 395 in the ICU, and 209 on the ventilator. All three numbers dropped from Wednesday, with those hospitalized dropping by 74 and the two other numbers dropping by four.
