First COVID-19 Vaccines Given in Kentucky

Governor Andy Beshear and University of Louisville Health officials marked a historic moment in the fight against COVID-19, as the first vaccines shipped to Kentucky were administered Monday morning.

Beshear said it was a day everyone has been waiting to arrive.

Beshear added UofL Hospital, Baptist Health Lexington, and the Medical Center at Bowling Green, each received 975 doses Monday thanks to UPS and are beginning their vaccination plans.

During the news conference, Jason Smith, Chief Medical Officer at UofL Health, was the first Kentuckian to receive the first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Dr. Smith added it would take a few months to get everyone vaccinated across the state and nation, and he believes medical professionals will not truly rest until everyone has it.
