One of four people charged in connection to a carjacking in Hopkinsville that led to a police officer being shot was sentenced Wednesday morning in Christian County Circuit Court.

September Neblett was charged with complicity to first-degree robbery and receiving stolen property under $10,000 for her role in connection to a carjacking and pursuit on North Drive in Hopkinsville in February 2019. During the pursuit, Keith Kuzyk, allegedly shot and wounded Officer Jeremy Davidson.

Neblett and her public defender Chris Woodall and Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jared Smith appeared virtually before Judge John Atkins. Before the judge imposed the sentence, Woodall argued his client should get probation because she had the least involvement in the events that unfolded on that day.

Woodall said he believes she just got caught up in a situation she didn’t have any control over and asked the judge for probation because she has not been in any significant trouble prior to these charges.

Smith argued that she exhibited dangerous behavior that day and probation was not part of the plea agreement she accepted.

Judge Atkins denied probation due to the seriousness of the crime.
