More Details Released In Fatal Weekend Hunting Incident

More details have been released concerning a weekend hunting accident in which a Hopkinsville man was killed Sunday night.

Christian County emergency personnel say just after 6 pm they were called to McKinney Road for 58-year-old Charles Newton that was shot in the head in a hunting accident. 63-year-old Julian Newton, of Sharon Grove, was reportedly hunting in the area and thought that Charles Newton and his wife had already left when he shot what he thought was a deer.

Authorities say Julian Newton was using a muzzleloader and hunting from his vehicle in a field.

Charles Newton was pronounced dead at the scene by the Christian County Coroner’s Office. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife is investigating the shooting.
