State Resuming Utility Disconnects

Governor Andy Beshear said Monday he signed an executive order to help families who may be at risk of losing utility services because of nonpayment and created the ‘Healthy at Home Utility Relief Fund’.

Tuesday, the Kentucky Public Service Commission ended its moratorium on disconnections for nonpayment for the utilities it regulates.

Beshear added to ensure there are protections when that begins, he signed the executive order that ends the statewide moratorium on disconnections for nonpayment on November 6 but takes additional steps to help residents.

He added the executive order also designated $15 million in federal COVID-19 relief funds for the Healthy at Home Utility Relief Fund.

Funding will go straight to the utility where the money is owed.

Area utilities have announced when they will begin disconnects. Pennyrile Electric will resume them on November 2. The Todd County Water District said their disconnects will resume on Monday.

Princeton Electric Plant Board and Princeton Water and Wastewater did not mention exact dates but said they would be starting soon.

All area utilities will follow the executive order which gives customers options on how to pay their balance.
