Monday Regional COVID-19 Update

Kentucky Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack said Monday’s current estimate indicates a COVID-19 vaccine could begin to roll out before the end of the year.

During Monday’s news briefing, Dr. Stack discussed how the state will pass out the vaccine and provided a status update on it.

Dr. Stack added under current estimates, the earliest a vaccine may begin to roll out in small doses in December.

On Monday, Governor Andy Beshear confirmed 647 new COVID-19 cases and 9 deaths, including two Todd County residents already confirmed by the local health department.

In Christian County, 49 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed Sunday and Monday.

Christian County Health Department spokeswoman Amanda Sweeney said Monday was the highest single day of new cases with 45. She added the county has seen a total of 1,749 cases with 249 active. Of the active cases, 160 either 59 or younger, and 89 either 60 or older.

Sweeney added the county has reported 1,472 recoveries and 28 deaths since mid-March.

Officials with the Pennyrile District Health Department confirmed 15 new cases in Caldwell, Lyon, and Trigg counties. Caldwell County reported three new cases who are isolated at home, with the county reporting a total of 226 cases. Both Lyon and Trigg County had six new cases, including one person from each county who was hospitalized. Lyon County now has a total of 97 cases and Trigg County reached 228.
