Officials with the National Weather Service in Paducah say an Elevated Fire Danger is expected over the Pennyrile region of west Kentucky, the Land Between the Lakes region, and southwest Indiana Saturday afternoon.
In addition, a Red Flag Warning is in effect from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday for southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, and most of the Purchase area of west Kentucky.
According to meteorologists, sustained winds in excess of 15 mph with occasional gusts to 30 mph, combined with low relative humidity values near 20 percent Saturday afternoon will create conditions in which dry vegetation and some timber may lead to extreme fire conditions.
Officials say individuals should avoid any open burning Saturday and follow any burn bans in force by local government officials. They add agricultural interests should also be cautious while harvesting in order to limit fire danger in fields.
Persons in these areas should also avoid any open burning Saturday afternoon to help mitigate any concern for life and property for you and your neighbors.
