Semi Wreck Closes Highway 93 South in Lyon County Overnight

A state highway in southern Lyon County was closed overnight following a tractor-trailer accident late Wednesday night.

Lyon County Sheriff Brent White says deputies were dispatched to reports of a tractor-trailer wreck on Highway 93 South, approximately 12 miles south of Eddyville near the Lamasco community, around 11:15. He adds preliminary investigation revealed the driver, who’s name has not been released, was traveling along Highway 93 South with the trailer slipped off the side of the roadway causing the driver to lose control. The tractor-trailer then continued to slip into the ditch until it turned over on its side, causing it to lose its entire load of square steel tubing from the flat-bed trailer.

Sheriff White notes the driver had been incorrectly re-routed by a Google Traffic Maps application that had indicated Interstate 24 was closed due to a construction zone. To add clarification Sheriff White reminds local motorists I-24 is not closed but is reduced to 2-way traffic running on the westbound lanes between the 52 and 65 mile markers.

The driver was not injured in the accident, however, the entire roadway was blocked off until about 6:35 Thursday morning as crews worked to clear the scene and retrieve the trailer’s load.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Eddyville Fire Department, Lyon County Fire District 1, Lyon County EMS, Kentucky State Police, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
