Governor Updates Kentuckians On Latest COVID Cases

Governor Andy Beshear said at his Wednesday afternoon COVID-19 briefing that the state is on track for another record week as coronavirus cases continue to increase as well as hospitalizations.

The governor reported 2,398 COVID cases Wednesday, which includes over 14-hundred backlogged cases in Fayette County.

With the backlogged and daily case total, he added the state’s overall total climbed to 76,587.

Kentucky Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack pointed out that as the number of cases increases across the state, so does the number of hospitalizations. He said in the summer the state was averaging 300 to 350 people a day who were hospitalized due to COVID, but that number has increased significantly in the last three days.

With some good news, Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services Secretary Eric Friedlander announced an additional $130 per child will be provided to registered and licensed childcare centers to offer some relief.

He added that will be an additional $20 million dollars to childcare centers across the Commonwealth.

The governor also announced five new deaths Wednesday, raising the state’s death toll to 1,218.

As of Wednesday, Beshear said the positive rate is 4.21%.
