Museum Space Available to VLA and Homeschooled Students

Officials with the Pennyroyal Area Museum announced Wednesday afternoon they are open and offering space for students enrolled in the Virtual Learning Academy (VLA) on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. They add the museum is equipped with desks that are spaced for social distancing and they have free WiFi for students to use.

According to officials, the space is free; however, space is limited. Desks may be reserved online by clicking here ‎or by calling the museum at 270-887-4270. Otherwise, desks will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Officials say an adult must be present with the student(s) at all times. They add regular admission is required if touring the museum.

Officials say the museum also offers activities for homeschool and VLA students to use as they explore the exhibit gallery. The interactive worksheets follow six of the museum’s exhibit sections and engage students with puzzles, writing prompts, and educational games with hands-on projects and craft ideas available by request. Gallery sections featured are the Pennyroyal Plateau, the Commonwealth, the Neutral State, Farming in the Black Patch and the Tobacco Wars, Hoptown Boomtown, and the Edgar Cayce exhibits. Officials say activities are appropriate for ages 7-12 and be modified with notice. They add regular admission rates apply for educational activities and museum visits.
