18th COVID-19 Death Confirmed in Christian County

The Christian County Health Department reported Thursday afternoon the county’s 18th COVID-19 related death.

Health department spokeswoman Amanda Sweeney said the newest death is a 96-year-old white male. She added their thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of the deceased.

Sweeney also confirmed 36 new COVID-19 cases Thursday raising the county’s total case number to 1,145. She added there are 171 active cases with 84 among adults between the ages of 22 and 59. Forty-nine active cases are among those 60 or older and 38 among those 21 or younger. As of Thursday, there are 956 recoveries.

Sweeney added this week has featured the highest increase of cases. She asked that everyone continue to do all that you can to prevent the spread of COVID-19 including social distancing, wearing your mask in public, and frequently wash your hands.

The Christian County Health Department is continuing to offer free testing weekdays from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Tie Breaker Park.
