Two candidates running for seats in Hopkinsville in the upcoming general election have withdrawn from their respective races.
Christian County Elections Coordinator Melinda Humphries confirmed to the News Edge Tuesday morning that Desma Renea Nance Blount has withdrawn from the District 4 school board race and her name will not be on the ballot on November 3rd. Her withdrawal leaves Mike Walker as the only District 4 candidate on the ballot, unless there is a write-in candidate on the ballot, according to Humphries.
In addition, Humphries says Jarred Mathis, an Independent candidate running for the Ward 3 Hopkinsville City Council seat, has withdrawn from the race. She says his name will still be on the ballot but any votes for Mathis will not be counted. That leaves Independent candidate Karen Bass and Democratic candidate Aletha West vying for the Ward 3 seat unless there is a write-in candidate.
