Barkley Lake Water District Wins State Honors

Barkley Lake Water District recently earned some high honors from the Kentucky Rural Water Association.

The water district was recently named one of ten finalists for the Wooden Bucket Award. The association reports every year since 1990, the Wooden Bucket Award is presented to one of the water and wastewater utilities in Kentucky that have shown exceptional efforts in meeting the needs of their community. The award also considers enhancements to their operations, complying with regulatory requirements, and making substantial and lasting improvements in providing high-quality drinking water and wastewater services in their community. The Wooden Bucket award winner was not announced in the release provided to the News Edge.

Barkley Lake Water District was also named a winner in the ‘Best Tasting Water’ campaign. In all, 21 water districts, water associations, and municipal utilities from across the state submitted samples of water, straight from the tap. The association reports the scores were very close with Glasgow Water Company placing first, Barkley Lake Water District and Warren County Water District tieing for second and third place, and Fort Campbell Utility taking the fourth place honor. This competition is a part of the “Quality on Tap!” a campaign aimed at emphasizing the high quality, great value, and exceptional taste of America’s public drinking water.

John Herring, Barkley Lake Water District Superintendent says, “we are very excited to receive recognition for the hard work that our company has put in to provide quality drinking water to our community.” He adds “none of this would be possible without the commitment of our distribution crew, office staff, and water treatment operators.”

Both honors for the water district that serves residents in Trigg County, but not those in Cadiz City limits, were awarded during the virtual 41st annual Kentucky Rural Water Association’s Annual Conference.
