A Hopkins County man has been arrested after police say he shot at a vehicle occupied by a mother and her daughter in Madisonville Tuesday afternoon.

Madisonville police report officers responded to a shots fired call in the vicinity of East Broadway and South Daves Street around 1:00. Officer said the victims, Rachel Arroyo, and her daughter, Massey reported they were traveling west on East Broadway when a black male subject in a dark SUV produced a handgun and fired several shots at the vehicle as they passed through the intersection of South Daves Street. Police said the SUV chased after Arroyo’s car and fired at the car again near the intersection of South Harrig Street.

Minutes later, officers stopped the suspected vehicle and detained the driver, 28-year old Matthew Chaney. During an interview, police said Chaney admitted to his involvement in the shooting but the motive is still unknown at this time.

Chaney was booked into the Hopkins County Jail charged with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and possession of marijuana.
