Russellville Man Charged In Hopkinsville Walmart Shooting (w/VIDEO)

A Russellville man has been charged after a shooting in the parking lot of the Hopkinsville Walmart on Clinic Drive Sunday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say 60-year-old James Martin shot the father of his grandchild 32-year-old Wesley Beach, of Hopkinsville, hitting him in the chest and causing the bullet to travel through his arm during a custody exchange just before 4 pm. The two men started to argue after Martin reportedly grabbed the child during the exchange.

Police say Beach was able to get to his vehicle and get a gun and return fire. Martin suffered injuries from glass breaking out of a car window but was not hit by gunfire.

Beach was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center and where he was treated and released.

Martin’s gun was reported stolen out of Iowa. He is charged with first-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment and, receiving stolen property.
