Christian County Reports Ninth COVID Fatality

On a day when Christian County topped 200 active COVID-19 cases for the first time, the health department also reported the ninth death due to the virus. Amanda Sweeney with the Christian County Health Department said 73-year-old female that died had underlying health conditions and is the third COVID-related death in Christian County this month.

The number of active cases in the county has increased by 38 since Sunday, with 27 more reported Tuesday. There have only been 10 recoveries reported since Friday. Sweeney said 11 people were hospitalized with a confirmed case of COVID, with one other test pending.

15 of the new active cases are in the 60 and older age group. Only two new cases involved people 21 and under. Christian County’s seven-day rolling average of active cases stands at 174 with 675 total cases reported since the pandemic began.

Sweeney said Christian County’s positivity rate for August is 10.3-percent, which is nearly twice the state average and well above the five-percent recommended rate by the White House to keep businesses open without restrictions.

The Health Department has also started reporting the number of positive tests that involve asymptomatic people. 26-percent, or 175 people, were reported as asymptomatic.
