Comer Donates Surplus Books To Hopkinsville Library Monday

First District Congressman James Comer made a stop at the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library Monday afternoon to donate surplus books from the Library of Congress.

Comer said the Library of Congress just started a program that has surplus books which can be requested by members of Congress to bring to their district. He said when he found out about the program he wanted to bring his first book delivery to Hopkinsville because of the uniqueness of the public library.

He also briefly spoke with library Director DeeAnna Sova about the library’s involvement with the 2020 Census. He said the preliminary data shows the 1st Congressional District is right at the national average and Census workers will start going door-to-door.

Sova then presented Comer with a goody bag and gave him a tour of the public library.

After his tour, Comer also spoke with media about various topics including his role as the recently named Republican Leader of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, which was created to focus on waste, fraud and abuse in government. He said the committee has become more partisan over the years and his goal is to change that and make it more transparent.

He also said the chances are pretty good the American people will get a second stimulus check although he feels it’s a little soon. Comer added they need to see what industries have been affected and they need to get people back to work.

Comer also attended the Trigg County Farm Bureau Legislative Appreciation Dinner Monday night to provide an update from Washington D.C. and speak on recent developments within the agriculture industry.
